Reefer Van Funding Request

Expanding Fresh Food Access in Harlem & The Bronx

reefer-cargo-van

Mission

Every week, we deliver farm-fresh, affordable produce to neighborhoods across Harlem and The Bronx: communities where access to healthy food is often hard to find.

We connect New York farmers to urban families, making sure nutritious food is not a privilege but a right.

We believe every New Yorker deserves access to fresh, local food, no matter their zip code.

Transportation is Holding Us Back

The Challenge

  • UBHP currently relies on rideshares and farmer drop-offs.
  • Food often arrives late, in small quantities, or not at all.
  • Families miss out. Farmers lose income.

100 lbs

of food is wasted weekly due to unstable transportation

The Solution

With consistent, climate-controlled delivery, UBHP can move more food, reach more families, and ensure every box of produce arrives on time, intact, and ready to nourish our community.

Our Impact

Uptown & Boogie Healthy Project will purchase a reefer cargo van to store local farmers' produce and provide mobility, secure, energy-efficient, and climate-resilient storage solutions.

We serve over 500 people weekly from June to November, providing fresh produce and supporting healthier communities. Our efforts address critical environmental justice issues, including:

  • Food Deserts & Food Swamps: Many Bronx neighborhoods lack access to fresh, affordable food, increasing diet-related health risks.
  • Food is Medicine: Access to fresh produce helps prevent chronic diseases like obesity and diabetes.
  • Reducing Food Waste: We promote composting and sustainable food storage to limit waste.

Additionally, it provides services such as sorting, packaging, and distribution to enhance the "last mile" delivery process.
