Reefer Cargo Van
One of our primary goals for this year is to purchase a refrigerated cargo van, also known as a reefer van. Previously, we relied on rideshares to transport food to our markets, but that has proven to be a hassle. Not only did we have to limit the quantities we could purchase (which prevents local farmers from earning more profit), but it was also unreliable, as the food drop-offs were sometimes late or did not arrive at all. With donations, we can acquire a cargo van to transport food from farmers directly to our markets, creating a fully controlled cold chain that keeps produce fresher for much longer. It will also carry other essential materials, including our CSA deliveries, equipment for the market programs, and SNAP items, to both of our farmers' market locations. Removing this limitation can create a more efficient routine and help us continue to operate the farmers' market successfully.
Youth Program
Our program brings together food education, environmental stewardship, and community leadership to support families and local farmers. Through our microgreens project and composting initiatives, a graduate researcher strengthens learning outcomes and tracks impact. We offer hands-on activities engage children from Pre-K through kindergarten and Kids Club participants at the farmers market. Together, the programs create accessible, youth-centered experiences that build healthy habits, strengthen the local food system, and empower the next generation.
Community Chefs
At Uptown Good Food and BxPE Farmer’s Market, we uplift our community with both fresh produce and the fresh-cooked meals we prepare on site. Our local chefs lead live cooking demonstrations that show residents how to prepare healthy, flavorful meals using seasonal ingredients from our farm stand and farmers' markets. These community chefs energize the market, draw in residents, and offer free, delicious, comforting dishes to vendors and families. With your support, we can hire a permanent community chef and expand our reach to feature more chefs whose unique recipes celebrate the cultures and creativity of our community. Your donation directly fuels this work and keeps our markets engaged, welcoming, and nourishing for all.
